Tekla Structural Designer: How to apply Wind Loads In Irregular Building!!

In structural design, wind load is a type of lateral load which plays a very important role, especially if the building height is more than 10 m and the building is in a cyclone-prone zone. When wind acts on a building or any type of structure, the resulting force acting on the building elevation is called "wind load".

The magnitude of the wind load depends upon the angle at which the wind makes contact with the building and also the structure size (Viz. height, width)


In this blog, we are going to discuss how to apply wind loads on irregular buildings.



So let's start the step by step procedure 


Step 1: Let us consider an irregular building model in Tekla structural design and go to base level, draw some construction lines by taking offsets from existing construction lines.



Step 2: Also go to the topmost level and in the properties menu tick the option of Show Grids in 3D.


Step 3: Turn on the gridline visibility in the 3D View from the scene content menu




Step 4: Go to model option and select wall panels and create panels around the irregular building model, cover it from all the sides so that a surface is present for the wind loads to act.


 



Step 5: Go to scene content and turn on wind panels and select all the panels and select all the panels and tick on the rigid diaphragm option from the properties menu.





Step 6: Then go loading and select wind wizard and give basic wind speed value and all other requisites, as per your building Design Code selected. 

Step 7: Under the Load option, create the required load combinations, and then in the design option, click on “Design All Static”, to check the design results

How to Create a Bolt in Tekla Structures

Tekla Structures is a building information modeling software able to model structures that incorporate different kinds of building materials, including steel, concrete, timber and glass. However it is widely used for the detailing of structural drawing. 


In this Blog, we will describe the stepwise process of creating bolts in Tekla Structures (TS).

Bolts are needed to join two or more plates or surfaces. As we do it in practical, in the same

way we do it in software.

Steps to create bolts:

  1. Go to plate under the steel section


  1. Model at least two plates. 



  1. Go to Bolt under Steel



  1. Select both plates



  1. Find the midpoint of top slab 


  1. Join from one end to other end


  1. Bolt will appear


  1. Define the bolt

  1. Bolts will appear accordingly



  1. Now you can position your bolt



  1. To check you can switch to top view

Process of Fly Ash Brick Manufacturing

 In modern framed structure buildings (RCC Buildings), masonry plays the role of a partition wall which is provided for the purpose of privacy, aesthetical view points and protecting the inhabitants of the building from the external environment.

Most common materials used in masonry are AAC Blocks and Bricks. So how can we define bricks in a simple manner?

“Brick is a type of rectangular block used for masonry construction.”

Although sometimes bricks may have other unconventional shapes for suiting architectural requirements. Among the common types of bricks used are Burnt Clay Bricks, Fly Ash Bricks and Hollow Bricks. In many places especially in some states of India the manufacture of red bricks has been banned, since it utilises the top alluvial layer of the soil, which is very useful in agriculture (the income generating source for the majority of the  population of the country.)



So, let us briefly go through the manufacturing process of Fly Ash bricks.

Manufacturing process of Fly Ash Brick

  1. Mixing: The process involves mixing of fly ash, sand/stone dust, lime and gypsum in the proper proportions. 

Firstly mixing lime and gypsum are grinded and mixed with some water, next fly ash and sand/stone dust are added to the mix.

Cement can also be used in place of lime and gypsum, in that case the dry mix of fly ash and sand/stone dust is prepared first, then cement is mixed and after that a proper amount of water is added and mixed.


  1. Moulding: The mixture is then transferred to the moulding machine, where it is hydraulically pressed through vibrations using vibratory press.


  1. Drying: The prepared bricks are taken out of moulds and dried for about 2 days.

  2. Curing: Water Curing of the dried bricks is done for 14 days, so that the brick gains the desired strength.

Tekla Structures: How to Provide Extra Reinforcement in Beam?

Tekla Structures is a building information modeling software able to model structures that incorporate different kinds of building materials, including steel, concrete, timber and glass. However it is widely used for the detailing of structural drawing.


There are many applications in Tekla Structures with which we can provide  reinforcement in Beam or any other structural member. One can also provide extra reinforcement with the help of application. But when it comes to providing single extra reinforcement. Then you will find it hard to do so. However you can do it easily with the help of “Rebar”.

Steps of providing single extra reinforcement:
1. Model the beam




2. Define the reinforcement using the according to structural drawing.



3. Provide the reinforcement in the beam



4. Go to concrete -> Rebar -> Bar



5. Define the properties



6. Select the object



7. Define the length & direction 



8. Your bar will appear



9. Position the bar correctly according to your requirement by changing its cover thickness.



10. Similarly  you can provide the top reinforcement
