How to add Masonry Walls in TSD (Tekla Structural Designer) ?

Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) is a simple, integrated design & analysis software that enables engineers to deliver safe, effective and rationalized design more quickly, regardless of structural material. Reinforcement drawings for the entire building or tonnes of steel for estimating and many more.

Following are the steps to add Masonry Walls in TSD :

Step 1

First of all we will have to create a frame, so for creating frame we will have to go to the Model option and then to the frame option as shown in fig 1.

So we will go to the Structure window and then frames and then we will open the view of this particular frame as shown in fig 2.

So once the view has opened now we want to insert frame here so for that we will have to take some parallel constructional lines and place the value of the depth of the beam and after placing simple click enter.

Next we will simply go to the option of the model and then general wall and will just create the      general wall as shown in fig 4 .

Step 5 

After creating the wall we will simply select and can change the properties. Now you can change the wall type like bearing wall and we can also change the grid to the masonry wall sample.

Then for load you will simply have to go to load and can change the load and then simply go to Design and Design all static as shown in fig 5.

So by right clicking on it and check the design of the member and you will see the effects of the masonry walls .

How to Change the Colour of Gridlines and Member Loads in Tekla Structural Designer

 Tekla Structural Designer is an advanced software used for Structural Analysis and Design of a Building. In Tekla we can do detailing of steel structures as well as RCC structures. We can create RCC buildings and we can insert the rebars in Tekla structures Designer software.  We can also do the form works and structural drawing without the help of any other softwares .

 

 

So let’s go step by step to know how to change the colour of Gridlines.

Step 1

First of all import the grids once the grids have been uploaded select the grids and in the left side of the fig.1 you can see the options of grids, style , show name so we will choose the architectural drawing  and then we can change the colour as we want .

In the next step is to change the colour of the member loads, so you can see in the fig.2 we have G+3 Building design fully loaded with loads where the dead loads are denoted by the green colour so , for changing the colour we will have to go the home option and then settings and then we will go with the option of scene and then we will get the option of colours as shown in fig. 3.

So now you can change any particular colour of loads by choosing the load option and select your desired colour and click on ok after that the colour will be changed . Like this you can also change the colours of every member in Tekla Structural Designer.

STAAD Pro Vs Tekla Structural Designer .Which One Is Better ?

Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) is a simple, integrated design & analysis software that enables engineers to deliver safe, effective and rationalized design more quickly, regardless of structural material. Reinforcement drawings for the entire building or tonnes of steel for estimating and many more. 

 

So in the above image you can see the first image is created in Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) and in the second image the model has been created in Staad Pro  . we can start the comparison with the grid lines. So for creating grid lines in staad we need to enter the coordinates from the beam column plan as shown in fig.1 and we need to insert it while viewing the beam column plan.

We can create grid lines in Tekla Structural Designer directly and in addition        you can also import the beam column plan as shadow as shown in fig 2 .

Next step is adding members in staad pro so in addition we need to see the beam column plan again and again so that we can place the structural members correctly. Applying members in TSD is comparatively easier as compared to staad as we already have the shadow of beam column plan so we don’t need to look again and again we can directly put the value of the structural members and directly we can get on the model. 

After inserting the columns we can similarly insert the beams as shown in fig.3 .

Now if you compare the two models after inserting the structural members you can see the model that we have created in Staad is a 2D Model as shown in fig 4. and the Model in TSD looks like a 3D Model as shown in fig.5.

After this we can also apply loads on these model so we will start from Staad so in Staad applying loads is easy and we also have to apply the self weight of the members and live load , dead loads seismic and wind loads whereas in TSD the self load of the member is taken automatically so we don’t have to apply that and it saves time and interface is relatively user friendly making the process fast  and also the application of rest of loads is fast and easy .

Next is footing design in Staad , we can not design footings on Staad for that we need a separate software but in TSD we can design footings as well as slab.    

So I hope you can now differentiate between Staad pro and Tekla Structural Designer (TSD).

Tekla Structural Designer(TSD): How to create Holes in Slab ?

Tekla Structural Designer is software that gives engineers the power to analyze and design buildings efficiently and profitably. Fully automated and packed with many unique features for optimized concrete and steel design, Tekla Structural Designer helps engineering businesses to win more work and maximize profits. 

Following are the steps from which we can create holes in slab easily

Step 1

First of all we will go to the level in which we want to provide the particular openings to the slab and after turning on the loads we can go to the option of model and we can find the option of slab openings as shown in fig 1.

Before defining the slab openings we will draw some construction lines ( parallel quick) . Now we can give any dimensions to it and adjust the scale and find you dotted lines of slab opening as shown in fig 2.

Next step is to go to the option of slab opening and select the base in which we want to create the opening as shown in fig.3 .

So now in fig . 4 you can see we have created the slab opening.

Is Tekla a BIM Software ? Revit structure and Tekla structure

 Tekla is a Software product Family of Trimble. Tekla is a combination of some products. Basically, it consists of Software for Structural Analysis, Design, Detailing and for Project Management. In the Tekla we have three Software and among those three we have software for Detailing of the structural member i.e. Tekla Structures in which we can also do the 3d detailing and Tekla Structures Designer software is used for the Structural Analysis, Design and also for the project Management and Tekla Tads software is used for manual design or calculation of some members using the British codes. 

BIM is basically building information modelling in which we can maintain all the responsibilities which are responsible in building construction like Structure detailing as per the structural Drawings we can do project management and even we can calculate the quantity of material that is used in the project.

Let's talk about scope of BIM .

If you will go to LinkedIn and search Tekla Modular jobs where you can see jobs regarding BIM. 

In Tekla, we can do the detailing of steel structures as well as RCC structures. We can create RCC buildings and we can insert the rebars in Tekla structures Designer software.  We can also do the form works and structural drawing without the help of any other software. We can control our workflow using this software as it also includes project management. Tekla is a Software product Family of Trimble . 

Revit structures is also a detailing software . We can create detailed reinforcement designs and drawing documentation with rebar bending schedules. We can connect steel design and detailing workflows.
